The Story

Bluestone is a band that has been performing for many venues since forming in 1993. The band derives its name from the blue in bluegrass music and stone from “Keystone” a former band of some of the original members. The band that originally formed over two decades by Dick Laird and is currently comprised of Tom Cook (Mandolin, Vocals), Carroll Swam (Guitar, Vocals), Ben Sapp (Banjo, Vocals), Russ Hooper (Dobro, Vocals) and Heath Laird (Bass, Vocals). This hard-driving veteran bluegrass band is certainly no stranger to the scene as members have played with the Flatt and Scruggs, The Country Gentlemen, The Franklin County Boys, Dave Evans, Frank Wakefield, The Country Gentlemen, Gary Ferguson, Paul Adkins and others. Firmly grounded in traditional bluegrass, Bluestone’s repertoire also incorporates; gospel, country, blues, swing and folk influences as well.

Past band members have included Chris Warner a Former Member of Jimmy Martin and Patrick McAvinue in his very young days to being past contributors to the bands success.

They have several CD’s they have produced, the most recent “What Goes On” was recorded under the Patuxent Label.

Some of the venues played have been The Lincoln Theater – “Song of the Mountains”, 10th Annual Wyoming BBQ Festival, The Whittaker Center, The Gettysburg Bluegrass Festival, The Maryland Hunt Cup, The Arcadia Bluegrass Festival, Coleman Station Bluegrass Festival, 2019 PA Governors Ball and others.
